Programme of events 2024-2025.
The Birmingham Medal Society meets on the first Thursday of each month at The Holiday Inn, Kidderminster Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B61 9AB. Each meeting is different and provides a wide range of subjects for medal collectors and historians in all areas. The meetings begin at 1900h with the formal start at 1930h. Members may also wish to meet in the bar area from 5.00pm onwards for a meal or drink.

Thursday 6th November 2025 - THE DRUMMOND LECTURE ‘’What Did You Do In The War Dad?’ One man’s Bomber Command Story. Alistair Price will return to take another look at his father’s war time service, this time concentrating on his Bomber Command experience.
Thursday 4th December 2025 - The Experiences of the Voluntary Aid Detachments 1916-19. Paul Handford MBE will look at this fascinating area of World War I. The Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) was a voluntary unit of civilians providing nursing care for military personnel in the United Kingdom and various other countries in the British Empire. The most important periods of operation for these units were during World War I and World War II. Although VADs were intimately bound up in the war effort, they were not military nurses, as they were not under the control of the military. Paul will as always draw from his own extensive collection to illuminate the presentation.
Thursday 8th January 2026 - Recent Acquisitions, Members Own. An opportunity for members to show off their latest medallic acquisitions or to talk about a specific group of medals they have. Always an interesting evening and one full of surprises.
Thursday 5th February 2025 - Three Men at Waterloo. Hugh Vaugh will look into the Battle of Waterloo through the lens of three individuals!
Thursday 5th March 2025 - Introduction to Rhodesian Gallantry Awards; Silver Cross of Rhodesia. Rhys Fitter will delve into this subject which is very close to his heart and use items from his own collection to help illustrate his presentation
Thursday 2nd April 2025 - Annual General Meeting and Recent Acquisitions. Following the formal business of the evening an opportunity for members to show off their latest medallic acquisitions or to talk about a specific group of medals they have. Always an interesting evening and one full of surprises.
Thursday 7th May 2025 - When Passions Collide. Martin Harrison BEM will talk about several medals within his collection awarded to men from Royal Leamington Spa, divided into three categories. His passions of medal collecting and civic history colliding!
Thursday 4th June 2025 - The British Empire Medal. John Scott will introduce this subject looking at the history and development of the medal, using examples from his own collection. There will follow an opportunity for members to bring examples from their own collections to add to the evening.
Sunday 7th June 2025 - Mini Convention Royal British Legion Club Knowle. More details to follow in due course.
Thursday 2nd July 2025 - A Most Distinguished Original Defender. Pete Fisher will draw on his own collection to dig deep into this interesting topic.
